Make it Comfortable, Make it Stylish, Make it Home
Most people thing of storage as something that needs to be concealed from view. However, there are wonderfully decorative and eye catching containers for storage that can be left out in full view. But with all those choices, you might need to reign yourself in from overdoing it with the patterns and prints.
The best tip is to be consistent. Select one or two solid colours for your boxes, binders, and other organizing tools. Either go with something bold to feature in your room, or something neutral that will blend and not distract the eye. These will be much like the accessories you place together in your own wardrobe. Go for accent and style.
Also, do not scrimp on getting quality pieces; after all most containers are made with the belief that you are putting them in closets, attics, and basements. Since you are not, pay the extra to make sure they will withstand the test of time and use.
If you are looking to give a new house the feeling that it has been a home for more than three weeks, then here is a tip that you will adore. Little is more comforting than a home that feels well lived in, and if your home is new there is a way to achieve that, tone down any brassy hardware. You should also start to add those personal home touches and special family items such as photo frames and albums. If you have a family heritage album still packed in away in a box, you should unpack it and place it on the living room shelf. This is a simple and effective tip to feel at home in your new house.
There are solutions that you can purchase that will darken your new brass, and make it look antique. Apply it to brass hinges and doorknobs and you will dramatically reduce the shiny new gleam, and get a more subdued effect. This creates such an easy simple elegance all from a silly inexpensive bottle. Too bad more things are not as basic in price and effort.
If you are planning to host an event in your garden this spring or summer, then you may very well want to consider expanding your repertoire. What I mean is, along with laying out your fancy china, for a tea party, you should try to include a healthy element. All those little cakes and treats need not be lacking healthy ingredients in place of those standard naughty ones.
So, here are a few tips on how to get the calories down, but keep the mouth watering taste in place. Cheat by using natural vanilla to maintain that oh so good buttery taste, but not additional calories. Stick to 100 percent fruit jam to avoid extra sugar or saccharine. Use high quality cocoa and chocolate so that you can get the best of the flavour with less of the product.
Now, you are ready to bake up sensible, yet savoury fruit jammy dodgers and chocolate macaroons. Tea will still consist of satisfying sweet treats, just as it always should. But, you will be able to wear that fabulous sundress longer by not adding on any weight in the process.
Mostly, we think of kids as being found most commonly running around outside, or doing the same inside. With all that running around, interacting with germs and other people is a constant. Thus, while paying attention to your own food intake, you can incorporate some good stuff for the kids too. Specifically, I mean help to build a better immunity.
Of course many of the items known to be immunity boosters do not naturally appeal to children, but there are some that do. So, you might not get away with mackerel, or oat cakes, still you might just be surprised at what you can sneak in. Some really great superfoods are sweet potato, Brazil nuts, probiotic yogurt, kiwi, pineapple and hummus. These will give you and your entire family a healthy hit.
When the topic of storage comes up, the first thing to come to mind is rarely housing wine. But, with such a wide array of wine racks available, it seems a shame not to display all of those lovely labels that artists spent so much time slaving over. Plus, it is a whole lot of fun selecting the latest and most innovative of racks.
One place to check out if you are in the market for wine storage is a website called Uncommon Goods. Here is a description of just a few of their offerings to tempt you with. My personal favourite is the Puzzle, it is an eye catching, yet practical sculpture. You can interconnect several of these moulded ABS polymer constructions and then mount them on the wall for a large display.
Another great one is the Wine Knot, which can hold up to seven standard sized bottles. It consists of sleek intersecting loops, and is made of both moulded birch and walnut. Either is a wonderful addition, and will assist you in showcasing your wine collection.
What makes a home comfortable is a matter of individual taste. But, there are underlying elements that will help you get to that level of comfort faster, and with fewer dilemmas along the way. I recently read a book called, The Comfortable Home: A Inspirational Guide To Creating Feel-Good Spaces and in it came some inspirational ideas worth taking a look at.
The book includes some succinct photographs that can aid you in putting a home together that feels as though it is fully furnished, and comfortably lived in with style. I found this to be particularly helpful for combining styles together. This is so often an issue that couples encounter, and with a touch of guidance such as is given in this book, a meeting of the minds can be found. In sum, what the author attempts to achieve is instructions on how to create an extremely relaxing and attractive home. In my opinion, she does a great job of doing so.
