Selecting flowers to grow in your garden can prove to be difficult if you are new to the task. One way to minimise confusion, clashing, and a displeasing combination of colour stick to a monochromatic grouping. It is always in style, and is virtually fail-safe as long as you are not colour blind. Practical and pretty makes things balanced and beautiful all at once.

The only thing you have to make a decision about is which colour you would like to use in varying shades. Here is an example for someone who had chosen blue as the feature. A sprinkling of larkspur, lavender, and sage make a delightful blend.

Another way to keep things extremely simple is to use the same plant repetitively, but in alternating shades. For example look at marigolds, as they will provide a lovely patchwork pattern of gold, orange and yellow.

However, if you want things safe, but a little more varied, it is always safe to mix things up adding in white flowers. This will help to create depth, and intrigue as the variation of one will make the other pop visually.
