In the anticipation of the kids having time off for the holidays ahead, I am collecting ideas for craft projects they would enjoy. I find that they get enough art projects that revolve around the holiday season given to them at school, so I prefer to give them less season ones to occupy their time at home. I find it also takes the attention away from conversations about gifts, which already seems to be a constant in the house.

Our first activity will be to paint tennis shoes, aka sneakers. I will invite over a few of my children’s friends to participate, so I had to get their sizes from their parents. I decided upon high tops for the boys and girls, as I did this with my own high-tops some twenty plus years ago.

Aside from the shoes, all you need is to lie out some newspaper and to collect fabric paints and/or paint pens. I also take out the masking tape so they can create lines, or blocks of colour. I do hope they enjoy the results as much as I did back in the day. Come to think of it, I wish I had thought to buy a pair for myself to decorate.
