As families expand in size, so too must the family home. This often brings about the question of whether considering brand new homes or older ones that can be refurbished is the route to follow. Undoubtedly there are pros and cons for both, but it is critical to identify what is best for your brood should it be expecting a new addition, or even multiple.

Now, if you put pen to paper and list those benefits and negatives you will be off to a promising start. I should know because every large decision I have ever been faced with, and asked my dad for advice on he has said the exact same thing. Pull out a sheet of paper and write out the pros and cons. I have found that it is indeed a great way to get a handle on the choice being faced. However, in some situations it is enough, and in others additional work is required.

And when it comes to the purchase of a larger home, in all honesty you have to do more than think on it. So, write up that list, and identify whether the needs of a family of three, four, five, or more if that’s what you are planning on actually are, and what is just the icing on the cake. You will surely balance what maintenance may be required, and what long term profit could be expected. Unfortunately, you can expect that it will not be as cut and dry as you might hope it could be. As there will be a lot to take into consideration, including personal preferences, and all those things associated with location.

Then, after your done with the list, get out there and look at a variety off homes before you get dead set on anything in particular. What you are sure to find is that your all important list is revised after having seen some options up close and personal. Once it has been wittled down, it is the list that will show you what logically would be the wisest choice. But as I mentioned before, there is always emotion involved, and that can sometimes trump everything, which means out with the list altogether.

No matter, hopefully it all turns out the way it should. And the next time you have to go through this exercise you will be looking at luxury new homes to retire in. My guess is that by the time you are doing this you will be very conscious of what to buy, as it will be based entirely upon you, and your golden years.
